Reopened to the public in 2003, Xujiahui Library (徐家汇书院) has two entrances—the main one at street level 🏛️ (often busier) and a lesser-known basement access 📚 (usually shorter lines). Take 🚇 Metro Line 1, 9, or 11 to Xujiahui Station, Exit 3—you’ll be just steps from both.

Once inside, look up 👀—the library’s dramatic three-floor atrium was designed to mirror the nave of neighboring ⛪ St. Ignatius Cathedral, with soaring shelves creating a true “temple of knowledge” 📖 atmosphere.

Known as Shanghai's Hogwarts. Beautiful interior design, the central portion does look like the dining hall in Hogwarts. At the end of the long hall, there's a 3D printed arch that gives a past-meets-future vibe.

In the basement, there are workshops such as art jamming, tufting and beading, alongside a market of merchandise. On L2, there's an outdoor balcony section where you can take a photo with the Cathedral in the background. And of course, there's a queue for that perfect location.
