It’s quite a hike to the church. Originally a Catholic Church, currently can be used as a wedding venue. There are coffee shops and gift shops around. You can stay at the courtyard to overlook the whole town. Great place to watch sunset, night lights on the village and Simatai Great Wall.

It is a good surprise to see a church built in this place Inside its a little empty. As not finished to decorate. But most important is the feeling being inside Some people prefer to sleep because cooler than outside Nice the contrast with the chinese wind chimes jingles next to the church.

The stairs are not steep and you can reach the top of the mountain in five minutes. You can enjoy the night view of the water town from the observation deck of the cafe next to it.

In April 2025, we traveled to Beijing. That day, we visited Gubei Water Town. This church is located on a hilltop. To reach it, you have to climb a staircase almost five stories high. It's not suitable for people with limited mobility, especially the elderly. The church is mostly visited by young people who come to stroll around and explore.

Reaching the church at the top of the mountain felt a little empty; the wind chime design and the surrounding landscape didn't quite match the style of Gubei Water Town. The interior of the church was completely newly built, and it didn't feel like a building from a bygone era.
