Beijing Lu Xun Museum

I initially thought it would be a bit serious, but I was incredibly moved after the visit! If you're interested in modern history or literature, this is an absolute must-visit pilgrimage site.

The most breathtaking part was Lu Xun's former residence itself!

Seeing his desk where he wrote "Wild Grass" and "Hesitation," the small courtyard, and the famous "Tiger Tail" study—it truly felt like stepping back in time. This isn't a replica; it's the place where he actually lived!

My visit to this museum on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 left a deep impression! Lu Xun is one of the greatest thinkers of our time, and many of his historical quotes have inspired countless people. The museum has an attached Lu Xun Bookstore, where I bought some of his works and exquisite metal bookmarks after my visit. It's definitely worth spending half a day exploring it!

Many artifacts and details from Lu Xun's life in a nice setting. There is a decent amount of English, although obviously a lot more detail in Chinese. Very interesting.

This is an example of a traditional style courtyard house (siheyuan), now turned into a museum displaying multiple relics and items from the writer's life. If you want to see what a siheyuan looks like and get a glimpse into bedrooms and backyards of a siheyuan, this is one place to try. Free entry but you need to have a passport with you. Good to combine with a visit to the Miaoying temple, a few blocks east. Looks like this place is more of something only locals tend to go to.

It's a 350 m walk (5 min) from exit B of the Fuchengmen metro station on line 2. Free admittance. The Lu Xun museum was bare. I was expecting many artifacts and details from Lu Xun's life. Probably it is in transition. Currently there is an oddly placed exhibit on Liaonan shadow puppet theater. You can only enter the courtyard and backyard of the residence. The windows are clean to allow a view into the buildings. It's a quick visit that you can pair with visiting Miaoying Temple (White Stupa Te
