Cenobio is a beautiful boutique cave hotel with stunning rooms carved into the stone and a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. The location is perfect for exploring the Sassi, and the private spa is a real must do. . The staff are warm and attentive — Mario in particular was exceptionally helpful and welcoming and even remembered our morning drinks request. A wonderfully positioned and memorable place to stay in Matera.

Wonderful hotel in a slightly difficult place to access, having said that most hotels in the old town are tricky to access. Even so, Samira was on hand to help carry our cases up and down seemingly innumerable steps. Then next morning there he was serving our coffee. He is quite simply a terrific guy, pleasant, helpful and nothing is to much trouble to him. The hotel is quite modern, spotlessly clean and the bed was queen size and very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh.
