We had an absolutely wonderful stay on Christmas Eve at this ryokan (family of 4 with two teens). The family who run the inn were warm and welcoming, taking such great, personalized care of us at every turn. We thoroughly enjoyed dinner and breakfast. The room was spacious and kept nice and toasty. Beds are traditional futons and not as comfortable as some others, but we were so pleased with our overall experience it wasn't a major issue. Although I didn't stay in this hostel, I still have to give five stars for the kindness of the proprietress. Because I went to Nara Park to feed the deer, it rained heavily and I thought it was a tea house, but it was actually a hostel to hide from the rain. The proprietress kindly let us hide from the rain, but the rain didn’t stop. Finally, the proprietress gave us an umbrella from her own house and insisted on giving it to us.
