A fine example of beautiful architecture, the church is designed by Professor D. Grimm. It was built between 1881 and 1883 at the initiative of Alexander III and his wife, Maria Feodorovna, the Danish Princess Dagmar. It is constructed in the Russo-Byzantine style using Danish red facing brick.
