Dubrovnik has a place in modern history best not explored with the locals. They have enough to contend with from the Cruise ship hordes and visitors who descend on the old town every day. Get away from the crowds by walking around the old town walls, explore outside the walls to get a different viewpoint of the defences. Go for a local boat ride and relay to the lulling rock of the waves. The cable car is worth the trip to the top of the ridge and see what lies inland. Park outside the old town
