Franciscan Church and Monastery - Quiet Beauty, Powerful Reminder

RIght inside Pile Gate, this 14th-century gem is both a peaceful haven and a moving testament to Dubrovnik's resilience. The gorgeous cloister with its orange trees and ancient fountain is pure serenity, and the 1317 pharmacy is one of the oldest in Europe. But look closer: the walls still bear shrapnel and bullet holes from the brutal Serbian/Yugoslav army attack on December 6, 1991 (preserved shell fragments and impact craters

If you have the Dubrovnik pass just go to this one and not the Franciscan monastery (smaller and cost 4 euros even with the pass, less people though). You can see the Franciscan monks about the church and monastery which I found quite interesting.

There’s also a working pharmacy here which was very useful.

If the Dominican monastery stands near the gate of Ploce, this Franciscan instead meets just past the gate of Pile, just in front of the monumental fountain of Onofrio. The visit includes the beautiful Gothic colonnaded patio, with a well in the center topped by the statue of the Saint.

If you have the Dubrovnik pass, why not pop into and have a look.

The oldest pharmacy is before the entrance, you can go into the pharmacy and buy something, it’s not cheap, it’s pricey, only the tourists will pay I think, I am one of them. No photo inside the pharmacy.

In Franciscan Church and Monastery, you can take as many photos as you like, but not in the museum. Keep you camera and photo away. Be a sensible person.
