Bodrum Castle (also castle of St. Peter) rises above the harbor in strategically important location, and it has been standing there more than six centuries. It was built in the early 1400s by the Knights of St. John, who chose the site for its natural defensive position and strategic control of the Aegean Sea.

The knights took stones from one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, located nearby, which had already been damaged by earthquakes. Pieces of ancien

This place is huge and beautiful kept. We spent nearly 3 hours combing through every detail and exhibit. The grounds, museum and setting inside the castle takes you back to life in the country so many years ago. Definitely visit if you are in the Bodrum area. Very less crowds also, so you can really spend some time by yourself. Also, the photos of the harbour from the castle walls will come out so good!

I wasn't expecting a great deal from the castle, so we saved it for a cloudy day, but I was wrong because it is a fascinating place. I forgive, a little, the Crusaders who in the early 15th Century stole stone from the already 2000 year old Mausoleum of Helicarnassus to refurbish and strengthen the existing ancient castle. But, in doing so, they created the historical and architectural heart of the Bodrum area. The local shipwrecks and their history just add an extra layer of interest and I defy

Quite disappointing to be fair!!! €23 entry fee wasn’t really worth it… maybe €10-12 would be better 👍🏻 I’ve noticed since been in Turkey & Bodrum, this country really loves to milk the tourists for there money 💰 a few old towers, a few old pots & statues, somewhat decent views but not a lot to see for the price you pay !!!!
