Waimate Museum & Archives is a very pretty museum on the outside, with a Victorian style exterior like Oamaru's vintage buildings. I didn't see inside the museum as it was closed, but a great building to stop by and see.

Lovely friendly staff! Worth a look for a gold coin donation

Quick visit on Tuesday. Staff friendly, helpful & interesting to chat to. Spoke at length to the retired engineer who maintains the stationary traction engine originally owned by Ritchie McCaw's great grandfather. Well worth a visit

Unfortunately the museum is closed on Sunday so I couldn't look inside, and the archive needs appointment booking. I am very interested in horse-drawn vehicles and old farm machinery as I volunteer at the Coach House Museum in Feilding, North Island so I was disappointed. Some interesting things to see in the grounds however so worth a visit. Looked like some renovation work going on to the cottage fence and an old dray. I'd like to see some labels on the machinery saying what job they were for

The geology display was good, but way too much information. Historical buildings with some stuff to see. There was "review us on TripAdvisor" signs everywhere which detracted somewhat
