Visit Naqsh-e Jahan Square

Naqsh-e Jahan Square represents the zenith of Safavid urban planning and Persian Islamic architecture. Commissioned by Shah Abbas I in the early 17th century, it served as the royal square and center of the Safavid capital. The complex symbolizes the political, religious, and economic power of the Persian Empire, with each building serving distinct purposes from governance to commerce to worship. It remains one of the most complete and best-preserved examples of Persian imperial design.

The square's size means considerable walking is required to fully appreciate all monuments.

Winter months can be cold but manageable. Rainy days may limit enjoyment as there's minimal shelter. Early morning and evening visits are recommended during summer months.
