Umananda Temple is a peaceful and spiritually significant temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located on Umananda Island in the middle of the Brahmaputra River, Guwahati. To reach the temple, you need to take a ferry ride, which takes just about 10 minutes. When I visited, there were two private ferries available,Dolphin and Jolporee. The Dolphin ferry charged ₹200 per head for a round trip. Overall the experience was really good in the ferry offering a calm view of the river and in and around.

Umananda Temple is located on Peacock Island, nestled in the majestic Brahmaputra River. The island can be reached by a pleasant ferry ride of about 15 minutes operated by Assam Tourism, available at very reasonable rates. After disembarking, one has to climb around 60 steps to reach the temple. As some portions can be wet and slippery, it is advisable to wear comfortable footwear with good grip. Upon reaching the temple and offering darshan at the Shiva pindi, one is rewarded with a breathtakin

I recently visited Umananda Temple, and it was a truly peaceful and memorable experience. Situated on Umananda Island right in the middle of the majestic Brahmaputra River, the location itself makes the visit special. The journey begins with a short ferry ride from new Guwahati inland terminal Ghat fancy bazar and the boat ride across the river offers a refreshing view of Guwahati city and the surrounding hills.

Once you reach the island, you climb a few steps to reach the temple located on a s

Umananda Temple is a beautiful and peaceful temple located on Umananda Island in the middle of the Brahmaputra River. The location is unique, and the views of the river and Guwahati city are absolutely stunning.

You can reach the temple by public ferry or ropeway, both offering a scenic and enjoyable experience. The ropeway ticket costs ₹100, public ferry charges ₹5, and private boats cost around ₹100. The ropeway ride, in particular, provides breathtaking aerial views.

Another great advantage

Umananda Temple is located on Peacock Island that lies on the mighty Brahmaputra River. This serene place of worship is named after and dedicated to Lord Shiva. The name 'Umananda' comes from the two Hindi words, namely 'Uma', which was another name for Lord Shiva’s wife and 'Ananda' which means happiness. In fact, Peacock Island is one of the smallest inhabited island and possibly one of the most beautiful too. The surroundings of the temple and the divine but understated beauty of the island m
