Sultanahmet Square

Sultanahmet Square was the center of Byzantine Constantinople, serving as the Hippodrome for chariot races and public gatherings. It witnessed centuries of imperial ceremonies, rebellions, and historical events. Photography is permitted throughout Sultanahmet Square without restrictions. The open space provides excellent opportunities for capturing the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and ancient monuments. Sultanahmet Square is fully wheelchair accessible with paved pathways throughout the area. The flat terrain makes it easy for visitors with mobility issues to navigate. There are no stairs or significant elevation changes within the main square area. Accessible restrooms are available in nearby facilities and museums surrounding the square.

The square is an open area with limited shade, making hot summer days challenging. Summer visits are best scheduled for early morning or late afternoon to avoid peak heat. Rainy days can make the marble surfaces slippery, so appropriate footwear is recommended. The square remains accessible year-round, but winter visits require warm clothing due to exposure to wind.
