This is one of Mendoza’s most beautiful and symbolic squares. At its center stands a striking bronze equestrian statue of General José de San Martín, hero of Argentina’s independence, proudly pointing west toward the Andes—the same mountains he crossed with his army in 1817. The monument, mounted on a large stone base decorated with plaques, looks especially impressive when lit up at night.
