Probably the best museum I’ve been to, it was brilliant. You need to book an appointment via the website and we had a private tour with Monika. So very fascinating to learn about the KGB, USSR and how Lithuanians lived in the past. Very interactive and great opportunity to handle real life artefacts and get dressed up! Would definitely recommend a visit. Monika was an excellent tour guide with great English and tailored the tour for us.

Thank you, Monika, for a great tour full of nostalgia about the good and the bad of life under Soviet occupation.

This place is a treasure trove of random items from life in Soviet times, lovingly curated and nicely presented to Cold War nerds like me.

The name’s a bit misleading, as it’s hard to tell whether it’s a museum, atomic bunker, or KGB hideout. A more accurate description would be an exhibition - and, if you’ve read this far, you’ll probably love it just as much as I did.

Great tour!

I went to a tour over there (Note; despite its name it's not a standard museum with fixed opening times, it's a tour through plenty of items/memorabilia from soviet times that has to be arranged beforehand by email) which I arranged with Monika through several emails. I was told it would be 16 euros per person and that's the price I was charged, so they are quite trustworthy. This was a highlight of our short stay in Kaunas. The museum has a nondescript entrance, but once you go through to the back courtyard and enter the building, there are multiple floors filled with an incredible number of items relating to both KGB, history and methods or equipment, but also some aspects of life in Lithuania over the past century.
