The main square and the place where the city was founded. Surrounded by some of the most important historical buildings, it has a beautiful grove, monuments and a pavilion that is often used for meetings and cultural events. The central monument, inaugurated in 1919, represents and pays homage to General Juan Antonio Álvarez de Arenales, a prominent figure in the struggle for independence and governor of Salta in 1824.
