Holyrood Park is Edinburgh's natural playground—offering wilderness adventure minutes from the city centre. It's absolutely family-friendly with options for all abilities, from gentle lochside strolls to proper hill climbs. The combination of geology, history, and breathtaking views makes it a must-visit that feels miles away from urban life while being astonishingly accessible.

Beautiful peek of the Scottish landscape. If you walk all the way to Arthur’s Seat or the top that’s close to it you get great views of the city of Edinburgh. I would recommend watching a sunset here

Holyrood Park is a wonderful place for a family visit. The park offers wide open spaces, beautiful views of Edinburgh, and easy walking paths that are suitable for children. Arthur’s Seat is a major highlight — even without reaching the summit, the surrounding area is impressive and perfect for shorter, safe walks. Children can run freely, explore nature, and enjoy the rocks and wildlife. It’s recommended to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, as food facilities within the park are limited.

We really enjoyed discovering Holyrood Park during our time in Edinburgh. We set out on a walk from our hotel, spotted this peak in the distance, and decided on the spot that we were going to walk all the way to the top.
The walk from the base up to the summit is such a great experience—challenging but very doable—and the views once you reach the top are absolutely incredible. Seeing the city, the coastline, and the surrounding landscape from above makes the climb completely worth it.

Holyrood Park in Edinburgh is a stunning natural escape right in the heart of the city. Spanning hills, lochs, and rugged cliffs, it offers a perfect mix of scenic beauty and outdoor adventure. The park is home to Arthur’s Seat, an ancient volcano that rewards hikers with panoramic views of Edinburgh.
