After visiting Derinkuyu Underground City, I walked over to the nearby Derinkuyu Old Greek Church. It is an abandoned Greek Orthodox church from the late 19th century. Unfortunately, when I visited on Friday, May 23rd, the doors were locked and I couldn’t go inside. Still, it was worth seeing the exterior and imagining the history behind it. If you are nearby, it’s a nice quick stop — hopefully you’ll catch it open!

I was on a trip to the underground city in Cappadocia. Nearby is the St Theodore Church, built-in 1858. I visited in October 2024.
Luckily, we had a guide who knew one of the managers of the church property and we were able to go in and look around.
This ancient churches is quite dilapidated, and I was surprised that they would even let us in.
The church is not open to visitors without special invitation.
Here are some of the pictures and of my experience.

Can not get in because doors have a big lock. Tried to look inside, it looks really amazing. There's strange people following you around all the time while you are there.

Probably once a magnificent church but now abandoned, closed, long grass and graffiti covered walls. The bell in the bell tower will not ring anymore. We could not see inside as the doors locked and wire mesh on windows prevent any access. Sad that another place of worship has become derelict.
