The Lisbon church of the Italians, 'Nossa Senhora do Loreto', opened first in 1522, partially incorporating some of the former 14th century city walls, largely destroyed in 1651 by a fire, rebuild 1676, then largely destroyed by the 1755 earthquake. In 1785, it reopened, retaining the 17th century chapels of the twelfe apostles that flank the nave. The church is still patronized by descendants of the Italians of centuries gone by and by newer members of the Italian community in Lisbon. Open most
