The church was built as a chapel of the monastery of the Resurrection Order in 1888–1890, designed by architect Albin Zagursky. The interior was painted by Kazimierz Smuczak and Stanisław Ehrenfeld. Smuczak created the original composition "The Beheading of John the Baptist" for the choirs for free.

In 1945, the Resurrection monks left Lviv. Since 1994, the former church has housed a Protestant church, now the Church of Christ the Savior of the Ukrainian Christian Mission of the Revival of Merc
