Very mystical place. Huge cisterns carved into the rocks. I didn’t see the archaeological site beneath in the valley.

If you’re interested in history/archeology, this is like a dream come true. You’ll find a massive Roman era cistern, an aqueduct tunnel and a variety of fascinating urban remains currently being excavated. You’ll see an archeological site unburdened by tourism, high ticket prices, bus tours or 19th century fantasies (I’m looking at you Knossos), situated on a mountain with beautiful views. Beautiful place that allows to combine a nice hike with a taste of history. Would definately recommend going early in the morning, as the mountain provides some shade. Hiking boots are highly recommended - I had hiking sandals and was struggling. Also, if you want to see the Orthi petra, there is entrance fee and you can only pay cash (the rest is free though). Overall, a truly magical place!

I recommend visiting the museum first (which was one of the best museums I've been to) so you can understand the archaeological findings, then the necropolis and finally whichever sights you prefer. We had limited times so we chose the Acropolis, the Cisterns and Aqueduct. It was one of the most interesting archeological places I've been too. I will definitely come back to visit the rest.

Really fantastic hike. This should really be considered a hike with ruins along it - not much left; however the site is fantastic and free, parking at location was easy. What a shame the place is so quiet - people are missing out.
