Nice spot to visit for a short excursion from Heraklion or Matala! Lush green trees to cool off in summer, tranquil waters and plenty of options to have a lunch or coffee!

Very beautiful lake full of birds and fish. Very quiet now in winter time (so if you need snack or something to drink stop by one supermarket before in village) but amazing nature. Small walking around and up to mountain

Lake Zaros is a beautiful and tranquil spot at the foothills of Psiloritis mountain. Surrounded by trees and walking paths, it’s ideal for a relaxing day in nature. The lake is home to ducks, geese, and fish, creating a peaceful and picturesque environment. There are also cozy tavernas nearby where you can taste fresh trout and other local dishes, often prepared with ingredients from the area. It’s a great place for a quiet walk, a family outing, or simply to enjoy the calm atmosphere away from

I visited Lake Zaros in February on a beautiful sunny day and had the entire place to myself. The area was incredibly peaceful and scenic, making it a perfect spot to relax and take in nature. While the cafés and facilities were closed for the season, it’s clear that this is a popular spot in the summer.
We came here to do the hike from the lake up into Rouvas Forest and Gorge, which was absolutely spectacular. The trail is just over 10km there and back, offering stunning views and a great mix

Disappointment. The lake was not maintained. It was full of fish, birds and even some turtles that were swimming in a water full of dirt. Trail around it was also in a bad condition and difficult to walk. There was a cafe for some drinks, but that is all. Been there some years before and this place is nothing like before
