The Weltzeituhr (World Clock) at Alexanderplatz is a popular, functional landmark that serves as both a piece of Cold War era design and an indispensable meeting point in central Berlin. Erected in 1969 as part of the redesign of Alexanderplatz under the GDR, the clock is instantly recognizable for its revolving, cylindrical structure topped by a simplified planetary mobile. The clock face itself displays the current time in 148 cities across all 24 major time zones, making it a unique education

The World Time Clock is one of those landmarks in Berlin that you can’t help but stop and admire. Sitting right in the centre of Alexanderplatz, it quietly spins through the hours of major cities across the globe — a simple idea, yet incredibly symbolic.
Its vintage, almost sci-fi look makes it stand out amid the buzz of the square, and it’s one of the most recognisable meeting points for both Berliners and visitors. Though it was constructed during the Cold War, the clock still carries a sense

Visited there in September 2023. Entry fees not required, free to take photo/selfies. It’s located outside Alexanderplatz station.

A cool landmark in Alexanderplatz showing times from around the world. Great meeting point and photo spot. A fun piece of Cold War-era design still ticking today!

I knew it was an important landmark in Berlin before visiting, but upon arrival the atmosphere was a bit unusual—there were people singing beneath the monument and a few others who seemed intoxicated, which made the scene feel somewhat odd. Nevertheless, the surrounding area is enjoyable, especially during the Christmas season when the festive atmosphere adds a lot of charm.
