We did the alebrije workshop with Carlos, and it was an amazing experience. We’ve done a couple of hands-on workshops in Oaxaca before, but this one was by far the most fun.
We were able to choose our own base animal and base colors, and Carlos patiently explained several fundamental techniques. We spent more than an hour creating our first alebrije. While it can’t compare to even a cheap mercado piece in terms of craftsmanship, it became the most special souvenir for us because we made it ours

Wow! What a fantastic experience! My daughters both loved painting and alebrije. Carlos explained the technique really well and was so patient with the girls. It’s a perfect activity for adults and also children who want to carefully create something. We loved hearing more about the cultural traditions surrounding the art. It was a lovely, relaxing, creative thing to do as a family… and we can’t wait to take their creations home. I’d definitely recommend! Mil gracias Carlos!! Un gustazo :-)

Carlos was really wonderful and let me practice my Spanish with him. I got to paint a nahual/alebrije which was chosen based on my birth month and year. I chose to go with the class (rather than painting the alebrije without any guidance) so I could learn some of the techniques and overall it was a very fun and informative experience!

Beautiful artwork in the shop! You can paint your own Zapotec spirit animal - we had so much fun and Carlos was so nice to explain us the techniques and give some inspiration. Highly recommend taking this special piece from Oaxaca with you :)

I had such a fun time at this gallery! They offer a unique painting package where they help you find your "protector animal," and then you can paint it yourself.
Carlos was incredible—enthusiastic, super helpful, and genuinely nice. He made the whole experience even more enjoyable and memorable. He also gave great recommendations for places to visit in Oaxaca, which was a nice touch. Highly recommend everyone check this place out—whether you’re an artist or just looking for a fun, unique activi
