There was food outlets and rides set up along with BUCHAREST in large illuminated letters, to mark Christmas when we arrived. A popular spot with lots of people enjoying the festivities, With fast food joints and bars being the more permanent businesses on the fringe.

For any visitor of Bucharest stopping at least for a quarter of an hour in "Piața Universității" is a MUST DO. You will be able to see the statues of the founders of modern Romanian education system - Spiru Haret and Gheorghe Lazăr - both looking towards the monumental Palace of Bucharest University, now undergoing extensive restauration. The square is beautiful but being refurbished which in fairness the whole Bucharest need. Just on the age of the vibrant old town with it wide selection of bar restaurants and outdoor dining it id definitely to be seen. There is also a great craft beer bar just off the back of the equestrian statue of Michael the Great the Unifier. We visited off season in a cold evening but the visit of the old town and some of the beautiful churches was great
