Came to Zamość yesterday after hearing the story of the town's foundation in the 1500s and preservation during WWII. I had no idea what to expect, dropped my bags at the hostel and started wandering around in the glorious afternoon sun. By the end of the day I'd be firing a cannon in a Polish fort!
After google-translating my way around the walls for a while I blundered into the main building and found I couldn't buy tickets for the underground passage (the so called trasa turystyczna or "touri

Zamość Fortress is a set of fortifications built between 1579 and 1618. The construction was initiated by Chancellor and Hetman Jan Zamoyski and it was one of the biggest fortresses of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.

The remannts of a bastion that once protected the city of Zamość, a great place to visit with tours that cross the walls and tunnels that span underneath the city. There is also usually archery and a stall with all sorts of prop swords/real bows if you're into that!
There are also shops and areas you can access free of charge to see the walls, with information boards and diplays which highlight the historical use of the bastion.

That’s an interesting place that is worth visiting. You can go inside for a paid tour, but there is also a place to go up for free to see some parts of the remaining city walls.
