Old Town Hôi An is magical and vibrant with all the lanterns and yellow buildings. So alive and buzzing with energy. The musicians performing here and there and all the shops and cafes give it a very artistic vibe. You can buy flower lanterns and release them onto the river. It's believed that as the lanterns float away on water, so does your sadness. And just like the floating lights, the whole place beams with hope.

To end off the night, I went for the famous lantern boat ride along the Thu Bồn River — something Hội An is really known for.

I booked the experience through Klook, and after booking, they actually dropped me a WhatsApp message to arrange the meet-up point and time, which was pretty convenient.

The ride itself lasted about 20 minutes, and included two lanterns for release.

Unfortunately, the town of Hoi An has become a sort of overcrowded Disneyland for passing tourists. It's impossible to approach the docks without being persistently offered a boat ride. Old women beg for a few Dongs to sell paper lanterns. Cafes blare out loud rock music. Tourists throw their plastic waste on the ground. The soul of Vietnam has long since disappeared here...
