We visited the bioluminescent beach in Holbox in early March and were lucky to have a no-moon night, making the experience even more stunning! The bioluminescence was clearly visible as soon as we walked or swam through the water, creating beautiful sparkles and glowing trails around every movement.
Our tour guide was excellent, first giving us a great explanation of the stars visible from the beach and even taking some amazing still photos of us. A good thing to know: you won’t be able to capt

In December, unfortunately, you can’t see the glow, and the moon also needs to be a crescent or cloudy. No tour is necessary—you can just walk there. Best visited after midnight.

we decided to not go. at hotel told us it is not visible all the time or 50% chance of it. We were there around Christmas time. you can walk there even by the day. we did not see any crocodile🐊just a few birds

We went two times since the first time was a full moon and the second time almost full moon but we didn’t want to lose hope 😂 I’ve got some tips for other people;
-
if you have a lot of moonlight and the plankton isn’t visible in the Laguna; go to the pier on coco beach and swirl underneath it! It wasn’t visible on camera but it was to the naked eye so thought I should pass this along
-
book the taxi to there ($200); we walked there the first time and it was …sketchy, to say the least 🥲 dark

We learned this the hard way: you have to schedule your visit during a new moon phase otherwise your visit is in vain IF that's all you're going for. We ended up doing the 3 island tour and got to see the flock of pink flamingos and beautiful beaches. It's just a shame we came for 2 nights only. We'll have to come back. My one star is for not having a new moon haha it's got nothing to do with the island.
