Bhaktapur Durbar Square is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Kathmandu Valley, I never visited this place so I convinced my dad and he listened so here are the details

Parking:

Not easy to find unlike Patan Durbar Square, but eventually we found a small parking lot near Shilu Mahadev temple so go park there.

Experience:

We visited in Jan 11, 2026, First we went to Shilu Mahadev Temple, it will be scary to climb but eventually you get there, you will be provided with an good view

A unesco world heritage site which has a collection of beautiful temples, perhaps the largest durbar square in Kathmandu. It houses the tallest temple in Nepal, over 30m tall 5 tiered pagoda style temple dedicated to Godess Laxmi. There is also a replica of the Char Dham of India. We had over an hour to spend here, which felt too little to appreciate the magnifience of the temples. Entry fee is NPR 500 for SAARC nationals and NPR 2000 for foreign nationals.

One of the important sites in Kathmandu Nepal which hosts a cluster of temples and important monuments inside the area. This area can take at least 3/4 hours to visit properly but sadly we only had an hour. This along with Taumidhi square nearby is worth a day's visit.

The entry fee is 500 NPR and is accepted only in Nepali currency (for Indians). But there is a money exchange counter near the ticket counter which is good.

Highly recommended with ample time at disposal.
