Ascension Cathedral was honestly one of the most surprising places I visited in Almaty. I’d seen photos before going, but they really don’t do it justice. The colors, the woodwork, the whole structure it’s incredibly detailed and feels almost like something from a storybook. Hard to believe it was built entirely out of wood and survived major earthquakes. The inside is peaceful and beautifully decorated, though it can get a bit busy depending on the time of day.
