The museum is nice but the exposition is not big, you can see it in 30-40 min. It gives you ideas to visit the Archeological parks in Crete to see where the collected artifacts were gathered from. If you have seen the Kazarma and the Folklore Museum, then this is the last objective on your list in Sitia.

While a small, country museum, the archaeological museum in Sitia houses one of the most significant finds from the Minoan era, the Palaikastro Kuros. This is a male god made from a hippopotamus tusk and was deliberately destroyed a part of the Minoan collapse dating around 1450 BC. Something very awful happened to the Minoans in 1450 BC. It could have been civil war, but my take is this was a Mycenaean invasion. The museum has a small and concise set of displays about the Minoans that gives

A nice collection of Minoan culture, with fewer highlights than other small museums on Crete. The famous Palaikastro Kouros is right at the entrance of the museum, standing glorious in its poorly lit glass box. It was very warm on an August morning, but interesting enough to quietly sweat through the whole collection. This museum needs desperately an update, just like the they did in Agios Nikolaos.

A small museum that had excellent funds from East Crete particularly from Sitia and Palaikastro especially the Kouros. Definitely go. But the displays and labelling address all tired and dated. Really needs an overhaul but hopefully without closing the museum.

Interesting exhibits, quite informative the labels. The building needs repairs, except if they want to make the building looks as abandoned as the ruins it has
