This is a superb, free, museum of local but world class exhibits from nearby Minoan and Mycenaean sites, in particular the tombs at Phourni. They include coffins and fully preserved skeletons skeletons from 3500 + years ago, superb jewellery (some copies as the originals are in the Heraklion Archaeological Museum), and a representation of the interior of a local shrine where there had been a human sacrifice to ward off an earthquake, it failed, the quake brought the roof down and so the evidence

Fantastic local museum with great information in Greek and English. Has items from the nearby Minoan Palace as well as other important sites. The one staff member was very welcoming and it was free entry. A very nice stop for any walk and explore of this beautiful town. Compliments the bigger museum in Heraklion.

A definite place to visit if you are in Archanes. A small but amazing display of historical artefacts from the area.
Highly recommended and even better that it is free!

Small room full of artefacts from the ancient times all from the town. Free entry. Nice place to stop off for 30 mins while in the town. The people in the museum seemed quite nice and helpful and spoke a little English but if you were keen to learn more they would happily tell you.
