Newly opened, world-class art museum in Almaty, designed by top architecture firm Chapman Taylor, showcasing modern and contemporary works by local and international artists from the private collection of Nurlan Smagulov. An outdoor head sculpture by Jaume Plensa featuring a Kazakh girl sets the tone. The spaces echo the surrounding Tian Shan peaks. I visited this museum because I was looking for an indoor activity to stay warm during December, when the snow and rain were pouring heavily.
The museum is quite big, with multiple floors and different exhibition rooms, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. I was happy to see works by familiar artists such as Yayoi Kusama.
The ambience, architectural design, and the exhibitions themselves are very aesthetically pleasing. Definitely worth a visit.

The space itself is well organized and peaceful, making it easy to take your time and truly appreciate the exhibits. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just curious, this museum offers a rich cultural experience and is definitely worth visiting while in Almaty.

Very neat place to visit building seems brand new and everything smells fresh. It's better to book online for the designated time spot. But lane moves quick so you might as well just pop up for a visit anytime you want. Parking may be an issue so please take cab to get there. My favorite exposition was an installation about nuclear tests in Semipalatinsk area back in the 50-70s. Very well presented and makes you think. Please drop by this place of you visit Almaty

A refreshing modern contrast to traditional museums After visiting the Central Museum of Kazakhstan, the Almaty Art Museum offered a welcome change of pace with its fresh, contemporary atmosphere. While the exhibits may not be entirely unique to Almaty specifically, we thoroughly enjoyed the exhibitions and the overall experience. It’s a nice complement to the more traditional museums in the city and provides a different perspective on the local art scene. They offer discounted admission for kid
